Filipina Gives Birth on a Cebu Pacific Flight, Baby Gets Free Flights
August 14, 2016 - Travelers on an eight-hour Cebu Pacific flight from Dubai to Manila got a surprise of their life when a baby was born on-board. The mother's due date was supposed to be two months away. Fortunately, two nurses were on-board and flight attendants were attentive. With their help, the baby was safely delivered.
The flight made an emergency landing in Hyderabad, India so that the mother and newborn daughter could receive proper medical attention before proceeding to their destination.
The woman gave birth to a healthy baby girl. In what may be the best baby present ever, the newborn was granted 1 million GETGO PH points, which have no expiry and may be shared with her family, from Cebu Pacific Air for being born on their plane onboard. What a lucky baby girl!
“We are happy that both mother and daughter are doing well, and would like to commend our flight and cabin crew for handling the situation with utmost professionalism and efficiency. We also express our sincerest gratitude to the two volunteer nurses who helped ensure the baby’s safe delivery.” says Lance Gokongwei, CEB President and CEO, in a statement posted in Cebu Pacific Air's page.
Previously, women who are beyond 6 months pregnant were encouraged not to board a plane. These days, some airlines allow pregnant passengers as long as they have clearance from their OB-Gyne.
Aside from Cebu Pacific Air, other Asian airlines like Thai Airways, Asia Pacific Airlines, and AirAsia are known to have offered up free flights for airborne newborns in the past. And while giving birth in-flight is definitely dangerous, and surely not a comfortable travel experience, it clearly has its perks.
One passenger caught the heart-warming moment. Missy Berberabe Umandal, a passenger inside the plane, posted the experience in her Facebook wall.
